The Outside Sales Representative for MATHESON is responsible for selling products to business and industrial establishments or individuals, either at the sales office, store, showroom, or directly at the customer's place of business. This role involves a variety of essential duties aimed at driving sales and maintaining customer relationships. The representative will compile lists of prospective customers from various sources, including newspapers, business directories, industry advertisements, trade shows, and the internet, to generate sales leads. Traveling throughout the assigned territory is a key component of this position, as the representative will call on both regular and prospective customers to solicit orders. This may involve engaging with customers on the sales floor or via phone calls. The representative will also be responsible for displaying or demonstrating products, utilizing samples or catalogs to highlight their features. Pricing and credit terms will be quoted, and sales contracts will be prepared for orders obtained. In addition to sales activities, the representative will estimate delivery dates based on the company's production and delivery schedules, prepare reports of business transactions, and maintain expense accounts. Collaboration with inside sales and route sales representatives is essential to keep account activities and literature current. The role also includes coordinating customer training, entering new customer data into the computer database, and developing relationships with purchasing contacts. The representative will investigate and resolve customer issues related to welding processes, equipment, and deliveries, and may also perform inside sales when necessary. Attendance at trade shows and assisting with semi-annual inventories are additional responsibilities, along with providing technical assistance to co-workers and customers regarding welding questions and collecting outstanding account balances.
