The Outside Sales Representative at Penhall Company plays a crucial role in selling construction services and solutions. The representative will be responsible for making cold calls within their designated territory, which is essential for generating new business leads. They will also engage with current clients to identify prospects and leverage referral leads to expand the customer base. In addition to prospecting, the Outside Sales Representative may lead or participate in presentations to potential clients, showcasing the company's capabilities and resources. Establishing and maintaining effective contact with clients is vital, as is the ability to identify new work leads and manage follow-ups diligently. The representative will be expected to keep accurate records of sales activities and ensure timely information distribution to relevant stakeholders. The role also involves learning to estimate jobs accurately and meeting with client management and staff to explain the company's policies, skills, and resources. The representative will notify management of sales activities and the timing for proposal and bid submissions, ensuring that client needs are met while evaluating the company's resources accordingly. They will represent the company during client and project management meetings, plan and coordinate onsite functions, and interface with various work groups to resolve issues and maintain quality throughout the construction process. Additionally, the Outside Sales Representative may assist in developing and implementing the Strategic Marketing Plan, department sales objectives, and individual sales plans, contributing to the overall success of the sales team. This position requires a proactive approach and the ability to perform additional assignments as directed by supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Make cold calls as required in the representative's specific area or territory.
  • Develop and identify prospects from current clients, referral leads, and other sources.
  • Lead or participate in presentations to new clients.
  • Establish and maintain effective contact with clients.
  • Identify new work leads and manage lead follow-up, record keeping, and information distribution.
  • Learn to estimate jobs accurately.
  • Meet with client management, staff, and supervisory personnel to explain the company's character, policies, skills, resources, and capabilities.
  • Notify management of sales activities and approximate timing for company proposal and bid submittals.
  • Determine client needs and evaluate company resources and capabilities in light of those needs.
  • Represent the company during client and project management meetings.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise onsite functions such as scheduling and material control.
  • Interface with all on-site work groups as required to resolve problems and ensure quality of construction in support of the overall project schedule.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Strategic Marketing Plan, department sales objectives, and individual sales plans.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.

Requirements

  • Comfortable in a highly visible role to potential and current customers, with the ability to influence and persuade.
  • Ability to learn the sales process and successfully close sales.
  • Enjoys meeting people and resolving business issues.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record required when duties require use of a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random screening for illegal substances.
