About the position

Richards Building Supply, a full-service, family-owned building supply center located in Charlotte, NC, is currently seeking an experienced Outside Sales Representative. This role is designed for a professional, energetic, and creative individual who is eager to lead our growing team. As an Outside Sales Representative, you will be responsible for building and managing customer relationships with a diverse clientele. This position offers a unique opportunity to operate your own business without the risks associated with ownership. To succeed, you will need to bring enthusiasm and strong sales hunting skills, particularly with a background in the building materials industry. In this role, you will engage and develop relationships with prospective customers, creating a self-sustaining network of clients. You will assist customers in the credit application process and respond to inquiries with accurate pricing, inventory, and delivery information. Additionally, you will utilize sales reports and other data to identify sales opportunities based on customer buying patterns. Cold calling prospective customers, following up on sales leads, and scheduling appointments will be key components of your responsibilities. You will also provide training to customers and their teams on various product lines and services, ensuring that past due bills are collected when necessary. Your additional duties will include cultivating and conserving sales and business with both new and existing customers. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills are essential, as you will need to maintain complete and accurate sales records of all activities. Timely follow-up on quotations submitted to customers is crucial, as is the ability to meet or exceed minimum sales budgets. You will be expected to preserve and safeguard the company's confidential information and stay informed about new products in the industry. Most importantly, you will need to work effectively in a team atmosphere while being able to operate with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Engage and develop relationships with prospective customers and build a self-sustaining network of clients.
  • Assist customers in the credit application process.
  • Respond to inquiries with accurate pricing, inventory, and delivery information.
  • Utilize sales reports and other data to recognize sales opportunities in customer buying patterns.
  • Make cold calls to prospective customers.
  • Follow sales leads and schedule appointments with prospective customers.
  • Follow up with customers and provide solutions for service concerns.
  • Provide training to customers and their teams on various product lines and services.
  • Connect with customers to ensure that past due bills are paid and collect payments when necessary.
  • Maintain full, complete, accurate, and detailed sales records of all sales activities.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of previous outside sales experience ideally within the building materials industries.
  • Ability to adapt to a customer base with varying degrees of product knowledge.
  • Professional presence with strong interpersonal skills with clients and peers.
  • Proficient with MS Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
