The Outside Sales Representative at Builders FirstSource is a pivotal role that requires a deep understanding of the company's products and services, as well as the ability to effectively engage with complex customers. This position is designed for individuals who can demonstrate in-depth knowledge and experience in sales, particularly in representing the company to its largest and most intricate clients. The representative will be responsible for understanding customer needs and identifying the appropriate products and services to meet those requirements. This role also includes a leadership component, where the representative will help train and develop less experienced sales staff, and may act as the Sales Manager in their absence. In this role, the Outside Sales Representative will represent the company throughout the sales process, which includes collecting data on customer needs and design specifications. They will act as a liaison between the inside technical/design staff and the customer, ensuring that sales proposals are developed effectively. The representative will also be tasked with developing sales contracts for a variety of projects, including residential, multi-family, and commercial, by gathering specification information from the client's engineer or architect and communicating any needs or changes to the technical staff and management. The representative will troubleshoot field issues that may be complex in nature and will be responsible for planning and conducting sales presentations for both current and prospective customers. This includes designing professional demonstrations of the company's products and services and clarifying how these offerings can meet specific customer needs. Additionally, the representative will research, identify, and solicit new customers, generating sales opportunities through a thorough understanding of client needs and industry competition. Continuous communication with customers regarding product updates and how these products meet current or future requirements is essential. The representative will also prepare various reports and documentation for management as required, and will enhance their knowledge of sales techniques and industry standards by attending company-sponsored training programs. This role requires the ability to work independently while meeting productivity goals and adhering to safety procedures to prevent workplace injuries.
