About the position

SEMO Tank, a subsidiary of Dairy Farmers of America, is seeking an Outside Sales Representative to join our team in Perryville, MO. This role is pivotal in managing and expanding our customer base within a designated sales territory that includes Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, and parts of Missouri, Illinois, and Tennessee. The Outside Sales Representative will be provided with a company vehicle for business use and will receive a competitive base salary along with commission based on sales performance. The primary responsibility of the Outside Sales Representative is to cultivate, grow, and manage customer accounts. This involves establishing and maintaining strong relationships with customers through regular visits, delivering parts, and maintaining communication via phone and email. The representative will need to possess a thorough understanding of SEMO Tank's product lines and services, which include tank trailer parts sales and tank trailer repair services. In addition to servicing existing customers, the representative will be tasked with evaluating customers' fleet needs, recommending new products, and promoting SEMO's full range of offerings. This role also includes performing on-site trailer evaluations and inspections to assist customers in assessing the value and condition of their equipment. The representative will work closely with the Sales and Parts Managers, providing feedback from the field to ensure SEMO's offerings remain competitive. The Outside Sales Representative will also collaborate with management and sales teams to develop and implement effective sales strategies, ensuring timely processing of customer orders in coordination with warehouse and parts department personnel. Maintaining accurate sales documentation and monitoring accounts receivable will also be key responsibilities. The representative is expected to embody the values and ethics of Dairy Farmers of America, demonstrating honesty, discretion, and sound judgment in all interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Service existing customers and cultivate new customer accounts within an assigned sales territory
  • Provide outstanding service, ensuring all customer concerns are addressed promptly
  • Deliver parts to customers within the assigned sales territory
  • Evaluate customers' fleet needs, recommending new products and promoting all other SEMO product line and service offerings when applicable
  • Occasionally perform trailer evaluation/specification inspections while on-site at a customer location
  • Proactively communicate what is seen and heard in the field with the Sales and Parts Managers and the rest of the SEMO sales team
  • Work with SEMO's management and sales teams to develop and implement new sales plans
  • Communicate with warehouse and parts department personnel to ensure customer orders are processed in a timely manner
  • Practice sound record retention of sales documentation and customer contact information
  • Periodically review accounts receivable aging reports, monitoring for delinquencies and taking appropriate action
  • Exhibit the values and ethics of Dairy Farmers of America through honesty, discretion, and sound judgment

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 3 years of sales experience working in a related field
  • Preferred experience - 5 years of sales experience in heavy-duty truck and trailer industry
  • Class E driver's license required
  • Basic computer skills (Email, Word, Excel)
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to demonstrate good decision-making skills and solid business judgement
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Strong sense of urgency in achieving objectives, with a high energy level and strong bias towards action and follow through
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
