About the position

The Outside Sales Representative at Matheson Tri-Gas is responsible for selling products to business and industrial establishments or individuals. This role involves a variety of essential duties aimed at generating sales and maintaining customer relationships. The representative will compile lists of prospective customers from various sources, including newspapers, business directories, and trade shows, to use as sales leads. They will travel throughout their assigned territory to engage with both regular and prospective customers, soliciting orders and providing product demonstrations using samples or catalogs to highlight the features of the products offered. In addition to direct sales activities, the representative will quote prices and credit terms, prepare sales contracts, and estimate delivery dates based on the company's production and delivery schedules. They are also responsible for preparing reports of business transactions and maintaining accurate expense accounts. Collaboration with inside sales and route sales representatives is crucial to ensure that account activities and literature are current. The role includes coordinating customer training, entering new customer data into the computer database, and developing relationships with purchasing contacts. The representative will also investigate and resolve customer issues related to welding processes, equipment, and deliveries. Attendance at trade shows is expected, and the representative may perform inside sales duties as needed. Additional responsibilities include assisting with semi-annual inventories, addressing technical welding questions from co-workers and customers, and helping to collect outstanding account balances. This position is full-time and typically requires working Monday through Friday, aligning with customer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads.

  • Enters new customer data and other sales data for current customers into computer database.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, clients, vendors, managers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Hazardous materials training and certification.
  • Associate's degree in Welding Technology or related field from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
