About the position

Builders FirstSource, America's largest supplier of building materials, value-added components, and building services to the professional market, is seeking an Outside Sales Representative. In this role, you will be responsible for effectively representing the company with the largest or most complex customers. You will demonstrate in-depth knowledge, experience, and skills to understand customer needs and identify products and services that meet these requirements. As an Outside Sales Representative, you will participate in a leadership role, helping to train and develop less experienced members of the sales staff. You may also act as Sales Manager during their absence. Your responsibilities will include representing the company during the sales process, collecting data on customer needs, and acting as a liaison between the inside technical/design staff and customers to develop sales proposals. You will be tasked with developing sales contracts for a wide range of projects, including residential, multi-family, and commercial, by gathering specification information from the client's engineer or architect and conveying needs and changes to technical staff and management. Additionally, you will troubleshoot field issues that may be complex in nature, effectively plan and conduct sales presentations for current and prospective customers, and design professional demonstrations of company products and services. You will also be responsible for researching, identifying, and soliciting new customers, generating sales opportunities through research on client needs and industry competition, and continuously updating customers on products and services. This role requires you to prepare recurring and special reports for management, enhance your knowledge of sales techniques, and expand your product and industry knowledge by attending company-sponsored training programs. Safety is a priority, and you will be expected to understand and observe all safety procedures to prevent injury to yourself and coworkers.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in a leadership role, such as chairing meetings and helping train less experienced sales staff.

  • Enhances knowledge of sales techniques and expands product and industry knowledge by attending training programs.
  • Plans and paces own work efficiency to meet productivity goals.
  • Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices.
