As an Outside Sales Representative, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and expanding customer relationships, ensuring that the company meets its sales targets and continues to thrive in the competitive construction materials market. In this position, you will be responsible for maintaining regular contact with both current and potential customers. This includes reviewing plans and specifications prior to bidding, calculating and quoting material prices, completing project submittals, and maintaining project files. You will also be tasked with tracking and documenting market data related to product and pricing, performing ongoing market analysis, and entertaining customers to resolve complaints and assist in collections. Building a good working relationship with fellow team members and establishing a sales process with central dispatch will be essential for your success in this role. Additionally, you will be expected to actively participate in trade and community associations, engage with production and quality teams, and ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures. This position may also require you to work odd hours and Saturdays as necessary, reflecting the dynamic nature of the construction industry.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain regular contact with current and potential customers.
  • Review plans and specifications prior to bidding, calculate and quote material prices to customers, complete project submittals and maintain project files.
  • Track and document market data relating to product and price.
  • Perform ongoing market analysis.
  • Entertain customers and resolve customer complaints, questions, and assist in collections.
  • Develop a good working relationship with fellow team members and establish a sales process with central dispatch.
  • Be actively involved in trade and community associations.
  • Be actively involved in production & quality teams.
  • Assure all safety policies and procedures are followed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED plus higher trade or technical school or equivalent in a related field.
  • 2 years of sales experience, preferably in construction materials.
  • Knowledge of the local market area for construction materials is preferred.
  • Ability to provide and maintain proper licensure, medical card, and acceptable driving record.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to establish rapport with a wide variety of personality types and accept rejection.
  • Self-starter with the ability to organize and manage time effectively and handle difficult situations.
  • Ability to work safely in a busy construction environment.
  • Willingness to work odd hours and Saturdays if necessary.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, physical/functional exam, and drug screen.
