About the position

A Carter Lumber Outside Sales Representative is responsible for finding sales opportunities and completing sales primarily with local contractors. This role involves identifying target customers, making calls, visiting job sites, and assisting customers in a timely and efficient manner with their projects and related product knowledge. The representative must employ effective sales techniques, develop customer relationships, follow through with commitments, and maintain heavy communication with clients. A strong belief in the mission and goals of the company is essential for success in this position. The representative will focus on building and maintaining relationships with contractors, identifying target customers, and increasing market share. This includes collecting and keeping up-to-date information on customers' product use and trends, servicing contractors by selling building materials and installed sales services, and determining appropriate credit programs based on customer needs. Meeting and exceeding sales and profit goals is a key responsibility, which involves following up on sales leads, monitoring market trends, and enhancing the company's positive reputation. Ensuring customer satisfaction is paramount, which includes assisting with take-offs and communicating scheduling and delivery commitments. Effective communication is crucial in this role, as the representative must keep lines of communication open between team members at the store and customers to ensure that service is accurate and timely. Additionally, the representative is expected to identify personal growth needs and learning opportunities, complete required orientation and safety training, and commit to continued learning on products, packages, procedures, and more.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Previous experience selling building materials to contractors.
  • Previous knowledge and experience in the building materials industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to increase sales and improve profitability.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and understand construction practices.
  • Ability to participate effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
