About the position

The Outside Salesperson I position at Phoenix Metals involves promoting and maintaining sales by developing leads and performing sales activities remotely, primarily through phone and email communication. This role serves as the primary contact for customers, managing relationships and addressing issues to grow business opportunities. The salesperson will assess customer needs, create sales strategies, and maintain customer records while ensuring customer satisfaction and adherence to safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Sell products for distribution to business and industrial establishments or individuals.
  • Serve as the primary contact for customers and maintain customer relationships.
  • Manage assigned customer accounts and build relationships to grow business opportunities.
  • Assess and maximize the buying potential and profitability of customers through sales strategies.
  • Develop new prospects and interact with existing customers to identify leads and increase sales.
  • Partner with customers to identify long and short-term needs and provide solutions.
  • Maintain customer records using automated systems.
  • Schedule and perform cold calls and calls to existing customers.
  • Highlight product features based on technical knowledge of product capabilities.
  • Answer customer questions about products, prices, availability, and uses.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with customers, providing service and complaint resolution.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction regarding quality of products and services.
  • Promote feedback mechanisms for continuous improvement of operations.
  • Develop or enter formal quotations and provide them to customers.
  • Negotiate pricing and agreements following established guidelines.
  • Follow up with all quotes in a timely manner.
  • Acquire and update knowledge of the metals industry and business trends.
  • Adhere to safety processes and protocols.
  • Facilitate execution of accepted agreements with operations.
  • Manage inventory of contract customers and address issues.
  • Interact with sales and operations team to increase sales levels.

Requirements

  • 0-5 years of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • High School diploma/GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for promoting and selling products or services.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and quality control techniques.
  • Knowledge of company products and their uses.
  • Knowledge of the metals industry.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, particularly in virtual settings.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on analysis and judgment.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain cooperative relationships with co-workers and customers.
  • Strong computer proficiency and working knowledge of Microsoft applications.
