About the position

Kiewit Power Engineers has an immediate opening for a motivated Overhead Transmission Manager to join our growing Power Delivery team! As part of this team of highly specialized design professionals, you will support a variety of transmission and distribution projects ranging from 12kV to 500kV in both engineering detailed design and Engineer, Procure, Construct (EPC) projects for clients throughout the country. You will be part of a team that supports all aspects of the project execution process by performing innovative design engineering through brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and/or reviewing final design and deliverables, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, as well as mitigating risk to ensure smooth and safe construction operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day supervision of the local overhead transmission team.
  • Lead a collaborative team including Kiewit design professionals and subconsultants to understand client needs, prepare deliverables, and provide project updates.
  • Establish design criteria based on industry, company, and/or client standards.
  • Oversee creation of computer models of overhead electric transmission lines and structures in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE and TOWER.
  • Oversee assembly of drawings, specifications, and design criteria for the procurement of tubular steel structures, lattice towers, and transmission line hardware.
  • Review the vendor supplied calculations and drawings for compliance.
  • Oversee development of comprehensive construction packages for internal construction crews and client contractors.
  • Provide design oversight and quality reviews for complex drawing packages ensuring Kiewit, client and code requirements are met for the project.
  • Drive a culture of design excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Present to management, analyze PLS-CADD reports, formulate design aids, and draft reports using Microsoft 365.
  • Coordinate staffing needs and availability routinely with overhead transmission management peers in other locations.
  • Promote development and mentorship of local overhead transmission team, including performance management and mapping of career paths, goals, and opportunities.
  • Identify design-build opportunities and develop win strategy for capture.
  • Lead pursuits of design-build projects.
  • Consolidate best practices from project execution.
  • Interface and maintain relationships with external design partners.
  • Manage schedule and budget.
  • Manage deliverables, quality, and compliance.
  • Interface with other Kiewit operating districts.
  • Interface with construction project leadership.
  • Visit construction sites, meet in client offices, and travel out of town to tour supplier facilities as required by projects and assignments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) in civil, electrical, mechanical engineering or related field from an ABET accredited university.
  • At least ten years' experience performing overhead transmission engineering-related duties.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Proficient in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE; PLS TOWER experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of MFAD, LPILE, and geotechnical recommendation application for foundation design preferred.
  • Knowledge of client and industry standards including NESC, ASCE, IEEE, and RUS.
  • Experience leading teams and projects.
  • Experience managing direct reports including approving timesheets, performance appraisals, and resource planning preferred.
