About the position

The Overnight Camp Lead is responsible for leading specific programs or activities at Camp Northern Lights, ensuring high-quality experiences for campers while embodying the YMCA core values of caring, equity, honesty, respect, and responsibility. This role involves program development, staff training, and direct supervision of campers, focusing on safety and educational outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver age-appropriate programs for campers.
• Write lesson plans and implement schedules for activities.
• Prepare, lead, teach, and evaluate program success.
• Provide a progression of programs based on camper interests and abilities.
• Evaluate camper and staff abilities and ensure adherence to safety procedures.
• Participate in staff training and meetings.
• Assist in training staff in specialized program areas.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed by campers and staff.
• Provide work direction to camp counselors as needed.
• Supervise campers and staff during activities and throughout the camp.
• Implement Social Emotional Learning concepts and youth development principles.
• Communicate effectively with groups of all ages and skill levels.
• Maintain high standards for health and mental health in activities.
• Respond appropriately to first aid situations and emergencies.
• Ensure campers receive medications as directed.
• Maintain accurate program records and documentation.
• Conduct daily checks of program area and equipment for safety and cleanliness.
• Represent the camp positively when interacting with families and community members.

Requirements

• Minimum age of 18.
• Adult and Pediatric First Aid & CPR/AED certification (may be obtained upon hire).
• Minimum of one season experience in camp or youth programs.
• Demonstrated ability to keep accurate records and organize logistics.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Lifeguard certification (may be required for some positions).
• Experience working with diverse groups of children.
