About The Position

The Overnight Camp Counselor is responsible for planning, leading, coordinating, and implementing programs and experiences for children in both daily and overnight settings. This role emphasizes the safety, development, and skill achievement of campers while providing high-quality outdoor educational and recreational experiences aligned with YMCA's core values.

Requirements

• Minimum age of 17 years
• Adult and Pediatric First Aid & CPR/AED certification
• Lifeguard certification may be required for some positions
• Education or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, or related field
• Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities
• Ability to work as a team member with minimal supervision
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their living unit and throughout the camp.
• Apply social emotional learning concepts and youth development principles in working with campers.
• Ensure proper supervision of campers at all times during daily programs and cabin arrangements.
• Participate in the development and implementation of program activities for campers.
• Lead or assist with teaching activities and actively participate in assigned program areas.
• Maintain high standards for health and mental health in all activities for campers.
• Provide care for each camper and respond appropriately to first aid situations.
• Ensure campers receive their medications as directed by the Health Office.
• Maintain high standards of safety in all activities for campers and staff.
• Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior.
