About the position

The Overnight Engineer is a hands-on role responsible for the maintenance and repair of hotel equipment and systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and refrigeration. Reporting to the Chief Operating Engineer, this position emphasizes collaboration, teamwork, and a systematic approach to preventative maintenance to ensure the well-being of the property and its guests.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold and role model the company's principles of People, Place, and collaboration.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with other associates by promoting teamwork and fostering a harmonious working environment.
  • Ensure consistent contact with the front office by signing out a radio and being present at or near the front desk at all times.
  • Maintain all equipment, systems, and building components including mechanical and electrical systems, pumps, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, locks, furniture, paint, wall coverings, tile, and other equipment.
  • Handle routine maintenance, repairs, and cleanliness in guest rooms, public spaces, event space, outlets, back of house spaces, and grounds.
  • Address security concerns such as noise complaints or guest issues professionally and urgently, reporting all concerns in the end of day report.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the hotel's safety systems and take corrective action on any maintenance or operating problems affecting security or operations.
  • Participate in the room preventative maintenance program.
  • Use skills and intuition to detect equipment malfunctions and discuss machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problems or repairs.
  • Repair and maintain the physical structure of the establishment and furnishings as needed.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards; participate in all scheduled training classes and meetings.
  • Transport heavy boxes and packages within the hotel for maintenance and repairs.
  • Assist in delivery and setup of all new equipment such as televisions, mattresses, tables, chairs, etc.
  • Clear guest hallway garbage throughout the evening to ensure cleanliness.
  • Communicate with Chief Operating Engineer on assigned projects.
  • Respond to all guest requests in a timely and personable manner.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in building maintenance; previous experience as a hotel engineer preferred or comparable experience at an establishment such as an apartment complex or office building.
  • Basic knowledge of refrigeration systems, electricity, HVAC, and plumbing; certifications are a plus.
  • Proficiency in the English language in reading, writing, and verbal communication.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, bend, climb stairs, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work independently and lead oneself effectively.
  • Ability to work varied shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
