About the position

The Overnight Lead at Meijer is responsible for overseeing the operations and processes within their department during the overnight shift. This role involves guiding and empowering team members to ensure exceptional customer service and operational efficiency. The Overnight Lead sets an example for the team, mentors new members, and collaborates with leadership to enhance customer experience and achieve departmental goals.

Responsibilities

  • Engaging peers to provide the best possible shopping experience for customers, including an exceptional checkout experience.
  • Communicating with team members and assigning daily work tasks.
  • Mentoring and coaching team members to exceed customer service and sales goals while maintaining Meijer standards.
  • Supporting the training of new team members and cross-training high potential talent.
  • Working with leadership on department scheduling to improve customer service, store sales, and profitability.
  • Ensuring product freshness by monitoring rotation and dating policies.
  • Guiding the team in compliance with food safety standards and regulations.
  • Leading team members in ordering, receiving, stocking, pricing, and product display tasks.
  • Creating an environment that supports Meijer's culture, including valuing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Operating a register and handling cash when needed.
  • Participating in period end inventories to help achieve goals.

Requirements

  • Passion for customer service with total engagement that conveys approachability to customers and fellow team members.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Retail or other customer service experience preferred.
  • Creative thinking skills.
  • Ability to influence others and build rapport quickly with customers.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, bend, and twist while handling products.
  • Experience executing plans and creating a strong team environment.
