About the position

Our Mental Health Programs team is seeking a caring individual to work twice a week overnights as Support Specialists in our Re-entry Program. As a Support Specialist, you will assist community residents who are being released from a correctional facility or have a forensic history that hinders their ability to secure permanent housing. Your role will be crucial in providing structure, stability, and support to these individuals as they work towards achieving permanent housing. You will accomplish this support by meeting one-on-one with participants to review their service plan goals, providing necessary resources, and offering emotional and practical support. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized housing service plans tailored to each participant's needs. In this position, you will also supervise participants during medication administering times, ensuring they self-medicate according to prescribed dosages. Providing transportation for participants when necessary for housing-related services in the community will also be part of your responsibilities. This role is vital in helping individuals transition successfully back into the community and achieve their housing goals. Westmoreland Community Action (WCA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to connecting individuals and families to opportunities and resources throughout the community to improve their quality of life and reduce poverty. This mission is accomplished through various services including housing, counseling, support, education, intervention, collaborations, partnerships, information, referrals, and networking.

Responsibilities

  • Assist community residents being released from correctional facilities or with forensic histories in achieving permanent housing.
  • Meet one-on-one with participants to review service plan goals and provide necessary resources and support.
  • Develop and implement individualized housing service plans for participants.
  • Supervise participants during medication administering times, ensuring they self-medicate according to prescribed dosages.
  • Provide transportation for participants when necessary for housing-related services in the community.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months experience as a support staff trainee or one year of experience in a human service agency working with the mentally disabled, elderly, or children & youth, or two years of college with relevant courses in the human services field.
  • Ability to supervise or assist participants in the implementation of their housing goals.
  • Must be able to obtain child abuse, state police, fingerprint-based criminal background check, and sex offender registry clearances.
  • Valid driver's license required with $15,000/$30,000 bodily liability car insurance.
  • Computer knowledge and skills are helpful.
