About the position

At Northrop Grumman, we are seeking a P-8 SCA Aircraft Mechanic Helper to join our team in Lake Charles, Louisiana. This position is part of a maintenance and sustainment program for the Navy P-8A, which is based on the Boeing 737-800 platform and operates in Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), Anti-Surface Warfare (ASUW), and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) roles. The role involves performing depot-level operations and is contingent on contract award, with an anticipated start date of October 2024. In this position, you will be responsible for troubleshooting malfunctions in various aircraft systems, including the structure, landing gear, flight surfaces, controls, and engines. You will perform repairs, replacements, and rebuilds of aircraft structures and functional components using hand tools, power tools, and machinery. Additionally, you will read and interpret maintenance manuals and technical data to determine the feasibility and methods for repairing or replacing malfunctioning components. Your duties will also include removing major components from aircraft, inspecting parts for defects, and performing preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections. This role requires a commitment to maintaining schedules and quality standards while ensuring that all work performed is documented accurately. You may also be required to work with jigs, fixtures, and various tooling as operations necessitate, and perform other related duties as assigned. Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
  • Repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment.
  • Reads and interprets manufacturers' maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Removes major components from aircraft, using hoist or forklift truck, disassembles and inspects parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repairs or replaces defective parts and reassembles/installs.
  • Adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories.
  • Performs preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections.
  • Enters description of the work performed and verifies the work was performed satisfactorily.
  • Services engines and airframe components.
  • Maintains schedules and quality standards.
  • Works with jigs, fixtures, and various tooling as operations require.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Ability to be subject to a variety of physical conditions.
  • Able to perform work in an approved environment during specified work hours.
  • Able to wear respirator or other safety gear.
  • Ability to be subject to areas which could cause various phobias due to height or closed spaces.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous mechanical experience.
  • 2 or more years of aircraft experience.
  • A&P License.
  • Able to obtain/maintain a Secret DoD clearance.
  • Able to change physical locations based upon need (including physical ability to travel).
