About the position

The Actuarial Analyst III will play a crucial role in the American National P&C Reserving team, focusing on analyzing the reserve adequacy of all P&C entities. This position involves performing and communicating actuarial analyses related to loss reserving, reinsurance administration, and financial reporting, while also supporting functions such as pricing, forecasting, and modeling. The analyst is expected to work independently and may need to relocate to one of the company's offices.

Responsibilities

  • Applies fundamental actuarial principles in preparing detailed reserving analyses for a variety of P&C coverages
  • Assists in developing the actuarial workbooks necessary for the annual reserve opinion
  • Prepares summaries of actuarial analyses for distribution to executives, other American National departments, reinsurers, and regulators
  • Works on improving the efficiency of regular monthly and quarterly actuarial processes
  • Assists Finance and other actuarial departments with special projects on an as-needed basis
  • Prepares for and progresses in the CAS examinations

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field with a strong mathematical background
  • Proficiency in Excel is required
  • Proficiency in SQL and Power Query is a plus
  • At least two years of actuarial experience is preferred
  • At least two CAS exams are required and at least three exams preferred
  • The ability to demonstrate sufficient progress in understanding and applying basic actuarial principles
