About the position

The Hartford is seeking a Center Renewal Underwriter to join their Excess team, which specializes in providing umbrella and excess insurance solutions for middle and large commercial clients. This role emphasizes collaboration, inclusivity, and innovative thinking, allowing underwriters to contribute creatively to the underwriting process. The position involves managing a portfolio of accounts, ensuring renewal retention, and executing strategies for both new and renewal accounts while delivering excellent account management service.

Responsibilities

• Balancing renewal retention goals and rate goals while managing cross-sell routines.
• Providing technical underwriting expertise in risk selection, pricing, administration, and account management of the Umbrella and Excess book of business.
• Profitably writing and balancing a territorial book of business.
• Identifying appropriate opportunities consistent with the company's risk appetite.
• Creating, driving, and executing strategies for new and renewal accounts.
• Delivering excellent account management service through strategic planning and operational excellence, tailoring service plans for each client based on their individual needs.
• Influencing final account pricing and terms positively.
• Driving accountability personally and with business partners.

Requirements

• 3+ years of P&C Carrier Umbrella, Excess and/or Casualty Underwriting experience preferred.
• Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with internal and external business partners.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Analytical thinking about business problems with the ability to make recommendations and propose solutions.
• High energy self-starter with resilience and an entrepreneurial spirit.
• Solid time management and desk management skills.
• Goal-oriented with a focus on delivering outcomes.
