About the position

The Utility Protection & Control (P&C) Technician role at Eaton involves providing technical oversight and documentation for utility projects, ensuring safety and reliability in Transmission & Distribution systems. This position requires extensive travel and hands-on involvement in testing and commissioning activities, particularly in energized environments. The technician will collaborate closely with the Utility Lead P&C Commissioning Engineer to identify and rectify design errors, ensuring the integrity of electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Utility Lead P&C / Commissioning Engineer with technical oversight and documentation requirements.
  • Perform testing and commissioning activities on reliability upgrades in energized Brownfield Transmission Stations.
  • Work around energized in-service electrical equipment safely.
  • Develop Isolation Plans & Procedures for the removal of existing equipment such as Protective Relays, Relay Panels, and Breakers.
  • Test and operate various protective relays and power meters, including microprocessor-based and electro-mechanical types.
  • Assist with testing of substation devices and equipment, including verifying voltage and current inputs to relays and metering.
  • Experience with Relay Testing Software such as Enoserve (RTS) and Doble Protection Suite.
  • Identify and resolve design errors during testing and commissioning activities.
  • Witness or perform critical tests such as DC Functional Trip Testing prior to energization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field, or 10 years of equivalent work experience without a degree.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of substation field engineering experience, preferably 10 years.
  • Hands-on testing experience with Doble 6150, Omicron, or RTS Software (Doble).
  • Experience troubleshooting, testing, and performing preventative maintenance on substations.
  • Level 3/4 NETA or NICET Certification preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional engineering license.
