About the position

As a dedicated P&C Scrum Master Lead (RTE) at USAA, you will play a crucial role in facilitating the financial security of U.S. military members and their families. This position involves collaborating with partners to optimize the flow of value through the Agile Release Train, coaching agile teams, and ensuring adherence to Agile values and principles. You will be responsible for facilitating effective PI planning, driving continuous improvement, and building high-performing teams focused on delivering value to customers.

Responsibilities

  • Provides hands-on facilitation of major program ceremonies across multiple development teams.
  • Consults and coaches teams to support a smooth transformation to Agile practices.
  • Drives continuous improvement and facilitates communication across teams to proactively lead dependencies and remove impediments.
  • Leads efforts to resolve systemic impediments that continually block teams within their organization.
  • Supports and educates product owners, product managers, and other program level personnel regarding product backlog and decision making.
  • Ensures effective communication within or across Programs; schedules and facilitates cross-functional meetings.
  • Acts as Agile SME to teams, departmental teams, senior management, product owners, and management.
  • Provides leadership for Scrum Master community of practice and mentors other Scrum Masters and Release Train Engineers.
  • Performs risk, issue, and dependency management for the program(s) and/or portfolio.
  • Drives release management practices across teams to ensure alignment to enterprise standards.
  • Provides agile leadership and training, continuously assesses the team's agile maturity, and sets standards to improve the team's velocity.
  • Serves as an active member of the Agile Community of Practice and encourages participation and subject matter delivery.
  • Collaborates closely with assigned professional coaches to conduct training sessions of value across the ARTs.
  • Resolves complex relationship conflicts among team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of related experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 8 years of experience in process improvement, project management, or program management, with at least 6 years as Scrum Master or Release Train Engineer.
  • Authoritative knowledge and experience with multiple agile delivery frameworks (e.g., Kanban, Scrum, XP, Lean, SAFe, DevOps).
  • Advanced knowledge of Agile Lifecycle Management (ALM) Tools (Jira, Rally, VersionOne, etc.).
  • Awareness and experience with widely successful Agile techniques: ATDD, TDD, BDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, etc.
  • Knowledge of compliance and risk management frameworks, including experience to identify and mitigate risks.
  • One or more Agile certification(s) such as: Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Agile Certified Professional (ACP), SAFe Program Consultant (SPC), etc.

Nice-to-haves

  • SAFe RTE Certification.
  • 2+ years of experience as an RTE.
  • 3+ years of leadership skills involving oversight of 3P offshore development.
  • Experience in the P&C domain.
