About the position

The P&C Substation Electrical Engineer position at Mesa Associates, Inc. involves working within the Power Delivery Substation group to design and develop high voltage transmission substation protection and control (P&C) systems. The role requires a strong understanding of substation equipment, the ability to solve technical problems, and effective communication skills to foster relationships with clients and team members. The engineer will be responsible for producing high-quality deliverables while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of the P&C Group Lead.
  • Complete substation P&C design projects to meet client standards and practices.
  • Develop deliverables such as One-Line Diagrams, AC & DC Schematics, Panel Layouts, Wiring Diagrams, Cable Lists, and Bills of Material using AutoCAD.
  • Foster strong customer relationships through effective communication and support.
  • Estimate and assist in the preparation of bid packages.
  • Attend scoping meetings as requested for projects.
  • Complete assignments within budget and schedule with high accuracy.
  • Mentor other designers/engineers in the group to enhance knowledge of P&C substation design.
  • Check/review other personnel's work for accuracy and adherence to standards.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply engineering principles relevant to project requirements.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and advocate for safe work practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related from an ABET accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in 69kV to 500kV substation P&C design.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in generation plant switchyard P&C design is desirable.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is desirable.
