About the position

The Hospitality Assistant position at Focus on the Family is designed to provide comprehensive support in food service and housekeeping, ensuring a welcoming and clean environment for couples and guests. This role is essential in maintaining the high standards of service that the organization is known for, particularly during intensives, retreats, and special events. The Hospitality Assistant will be responsible for preparing meals from predetermined menus, serving food, and interacting with guests in a sensitive and attentive manner. Additionally, the role requires maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas, adhering to health department codes, and completing necessary training in chemical safety. In terms of housekeeping, the Hospitality Assistant will ensure that guest cabins and all common areas are kept clean and inviting. This includes general cleaning tasks such as dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and laundering linens. The assistant must be aware of areas that may be off-limits for cleaning due to noise and must perform laundry duties as needed. The role also encompasses a variety of other responsibilities as required, making flexibility and adaptability key traits for success in this position. The working environment is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift and push/pull weights, bend, and reach overhead. The assistant will be exposed to various cleaning chemicals and must be able to perform repetitive tasks with good manual dexterity. Occasional work on holidays and weekends is expected, reflecting the nature of the hospitality industry and the organization's commitment to serving its guests.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares meals from predetermined menus for intensives, retreats, and special events
  • Serves food and interacts with couples and guests, being sensitive to their needs
  • Maintains cleanliness of the kitchen and dining area on a daily basis
  • Observes and follows all Health Department Codes
  • Attends and maintains Chemical Training
  • Cleans guest cabins, including bedrooms, bathrooms, and outside sitting areas
  • Maintains cleanliness of all guest and staff spaces throughout the property
  • Performs general cleaning tasks such as dusting, vacuuming, and mopping floors
  • Stocks amenities and launders kitchen, bath, and bed linens as needed
  • Is aware of areas that are off-limits for cleaning due to noise
  • Performs other duties as required

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of experience in food service preparation
  • Must achieve and maintain Serve Safe Certification and Chemical Training Certification
  • Strong customer service and people skills
  • Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Flexible in adjusting priorities
  • Ability to work independently with very little immediate supervision
  • Ability to work with various food preparation machines and equipment, sharp knives, and various chemicals
