About the position

The City of New York is seeking a part-time Paralegal Aide, Level 2, to support the Administrative Law and Regulatory Litigation Division. This role involves assisting attorneys and higher-level paralegals in managing cases through various stages of legal proceedings, including preparation of legal documents, research, and filing tasks. The position offers training and encompasses a range of responsibilities that require attention to detail and the ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with preparation of legal papers including exhibits and documents for service and filing.
  • Draft basic legal documents for attorney review such as Summons and Complaint, Affidavits, and Notices of Entry.
  • Close attorney case files and e-file court documents.
  • Conduct research using Lexis, online court dockets, and City agency websites.
  • Interact with the public regarding seizure and forfeiture matters and prepare related legal documents.
  • Assist attorneys in Criminal Court and with trial preparation across all five NYC boroughs.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, or an associate degree with two years of paralegal experience, or a high school diploma with four years of paralegal experience.
  • Experience in paralegal services must involve the American Legal System.
  • Paralegal Certification from an accredited program can substitute for 12 months of experience.
