About the position

The Associate Electrical Engineer at New York Power Authority (NYPA) is responsible for providing electrical engineering expertise and direction for equipment and control systems used in the generation and transmission of electric power. This role involves developing solutions for electrical power and control systems, ensuring quality, safety, reliability, and performance standards are met throughout engineering activities. The position requires collaboration with various departments and external agencies to support operational and revenue meter systems, as well as conducting field visits and inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Provide responsible engineer function in support of design modification projects, equipment applications, and failure research.
  • Perform field visits to observe or support construction and maintenance activities and provide on-site technical support.
  • Conduct occasional emergency response, including outside of normal business hours.
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines and departments for successful project execution.
  • Perform research on applicable codes, standards, and procedures and apply them to work tasks appropriately.
  • Conduct inspections and evaluations to ensure engineering requirements and specifications are satisfied.
  • Support the review and validation of operational and revenue meter systems data collection and reporting.
  • Interface with NYPA and external agencies to support settlement and reporting activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of two (2) years related work experience.
  • Basic competency in the design, operation, and maintenance of electrical systems specific to the electric utility or commercial/industrial industry.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Basic verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects with guidance.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Ability to perform basic engineering calculations and adapt standard specifications to specific projects.
