About the position

The University at Buffalo, a top 40 public research university and the flagship institution of the State University of New York, is seeking a Database Administrator within its Enterprise Application Services. This position plays a crucial role in managing enterprise-level databases and is part of one of the largest and most progressive IT organizations in Western New York. As a Database Administrator, you will be responsible for implementing, modifying, and maintaining databases at the application level, ensuring their performance and reliability. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Database Analyst team and the infrastructure team’s physical level Database Analysts. Your responsibilities will include developing and coordinating backup and recovery strategies to ensure database stability and integrity. You will also perform essential maintenance activities such as job scheduling, database tuning, schema and model design, user account management, and testing, as well as refreshing data in lower environments as required. Additionally, you will be tasked with developing, implementing, and documenting standards and procedures for database management. Assisting with query performance analysis and optimization will also be a key part of your role, along with supporting vendor product database installations in accordance with local standards. The position operates in a 24×7 environment, which may require occasional extended hours, holidays, or varied hours. Responsibilities

  • Implement, modify and maintain enterprise level databases as an application level Database Administrator.
  • Work closely with Database Analyst team members and the infrastructure team's physical level Database Analysts.
  • Develop and coordinate backup and recovery strategies ensuring stability and integrity.
  • Perform maintenance activities including job scheduling, database tuning, schema and model design, user account management, testing and data refreshing in lower environments as required.
  • Develop, implement and document standards and procedures.
  • Assist with query performance analysis and optimization.
  • Assist with vendor product database installation adhering to local standards.

Requirements

  • Experience in database administration and management.
  • Proficiency in database tuning and performance optimization.
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery strategies for enterprise databases.
  • Ability to develop and document standards and procedures for database management.
  • Experience with job scheduling and user account management.
