About the position

The Regional Newborn Nursery APP at Gerber Hospital is responsible for the direct care and management of infants in the Level one nursery. As an Advanced Practice Provider, you will provide high-quality, effective care to patients and their families, playing an integral role within the Newborn Nursery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide education, instruction, guidance, and advice to patients regarding medications and treatment.
  • Complete daily rounding and perform daily physical examinations of newborns, including H&Ps, progress notes, and discharges.
  • Attend high-risk deliveries and provide care as per NRP guidelines, including intubation in complex situations and performing procedures such as circumcision and frenotomy.
  • Obtain complete, detailed, and accurate patient histories and review patient records to develop comprehensive medical status, diagnosis, and clinical treatment plans.
  • Assist the on-call attending physician with the care of infants in the newborn nursery unit.
  • Collaborate with OB and nursing staff at Gerber and within other Regional Nurseries.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant program from an accredited institution.
  • 3 years of relevant clinical experience.
  • Current Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license in the State of Michigan.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • Previous experience functioning in a collaborative role as a Nurse Practitioner.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Newborn and/or Labor & Delivery.
  • Exceptional documentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
