About the position

The Medical Specialty Physician Assistant (PA-C) at Carilion Clinic plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive healthcare services in the Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine specialty. This position involves working collaboratively within a healthcare team to assess, diagnose, and manage patient care, ensuring high-quality service delivery while adhering to departmental policies. The PA-C will primarily work Monday through Friday, with on-call responsibilities every fourth weekend, and will engage in both inpatient and outpatient services.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive health histories and perform physical, psychological, and developmental assessments.
• Assess and manage acute illnesses, pregnancy, minor trauma, and chronic conditions.
• Analyze and interpret health data to determine patient needs and treatment plans.
• Initiate, implement, and prescribe appropriate treatment plans, consulting with physicians as necessary.
• Administer medications and injections as appropriate.
• Perform or request laboratory and screening tests, conducting preventive screenings based on patient history.
• Document changes in health status and assessment findings accurately in medical records.
• Provide patient and family education, developing plans for continued healthcare management.
• Coordinate necessary appointments and referrals, utilizing community resources as needed.
• Maintain patient flow and ensure timely patient care.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program required.
• Current Physician Assistants license (PA) required.
• DEA licensure required.
• AHA BLS-HCP certification required; advanced life support preferred.
• Clinical experience appropriate to specific practice/department preferred.
