About the position

Gannett Publishing Services is seeking motivated individuals to join our team as Packaging Production Workers at our Canton, Ohio facility. This full-time position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $11.50 to $14.24, along with a generous sign-on bonus of $1,500. Our newspaper packaging facility operates year-round, and we are looking for dependable candidates who can commit to a 40-hour workweek. The starting times for shifts may vary depending on the workday, providing some flexibility in scheduling. As a Packaging Production Worker, you will play a crucial role in the efficient operation of our mailroom packaging equipment. Your responsibilities will include feeding preprints into the insert machine hopper, operating and maintaining various packaging equipment, and ensuring that the production area remains clean and organized. You will also be responsible for transporting products using pallet trucks, hand insertion of papers, and stacking skid bundles. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a range of benefits to our employees. Responsibilities

  • Feed preprints into insert machine hopper neatly and accurately.
  • Operate and maintain mailroom packaging equipment.
  • Transport products using pallet trucks.
  • Feed inserter machines.
  • Perform hand insertion of papers.
  • Skid bundles and stack products.
  • Keep the department neat and clean, including emptying trash and scrap paper.
  • Sweep floors.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must pass drug screening only if hired as vehicle or forklift operator.
  • Must pass background check.
  • Must have good dexterity and be able to stand during the entire shift.
  • High School Diploma (or GED) required.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs repeatedly.
  • Must be able to perform accurate and efficient tasks.
  • Must possess basic math skills.
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Employees must have a high degree of safety awareness.
  • Above average problem-solving skills necessary to monitor and repair automatic inserting and collating equipment.
  • Must be able to change work assignments on short notice and be flexible in scheduling.
