About the position

The Packaging Supervisor at 8th Avenue Food & Provisions plays a crucial role in the Packaging department, leading a team of front-line employees to achieve packaging throughput and quality goals efficiently and safely. This position is integral to the overall operations of the company, which specializes in producing and selling high-quality food products such as pasta, peanut butter, granola, and trail mixes. The Packaging Supervisor is responsible for managing employee performance, developing team members, and ensuring adherence to company policies. In this role, the supervisor will schedule daily and weekly packaging assignments, monitor and measure department throughput and quality metrics, and provide coaching and feedback to employees. The supervisor will also collaborate with the Health & Safety function to enhance safety programs within the packaging department, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees. Leading daily team huddles and monthly meetings, the supervisor will drive team alignment, productivity, and safety initiatives. Additionally, the Packaging Supervisor will act as the on-site safety representative during emergencies and when the manager is offsite, investigating safety incidents and implementing corrective actions. The role also involves partnering with the sanitation function to ensure compliance with sanitation standards in the packaging department. The supervisor will assist the Packaging Manager in developing the department's operating budget and will utilize lean manufacturing processes to foster continuous improvements in quality, productivity, sanitation, and safety. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for scheduling daily and weekly packaging assignments for front line packaging team
  • Proactively monitors and measures packaging department throughput and quality metrics daily; responsible for coaching, counseling, and managing employees via timely feedback and development
  • Partners with Health & Safety function to advance packaging department safety programs and improve employee safety in the workplace
  • Serve as the ‘face' for employees on assigned shift; lead daily team huddles and monthly team meetings to drive team alignment, productivity, and safety
  • Serve as the on-site safety representative during emergency situations and when manager is offsite. Responsible for investigating and reporting safety incidents, and identifying corrective actions to address safety findings
  • Partner with sanitation function to drive compliance in packaging department sanitation
  • Assists Packaging Manager in developing department operating budget
  • Uses lean manufacturing processes to drive continuous process improvements in quality, productivity, sanitation, and safety
  • Other duties, as assigned

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED Equivalent from an accredited institution
  • 1+ years supervisory -or- leadership experience
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and extra hours, as needed

Nice-to-haves

  • 3+ years supervisory experience
  • 4-year degree in Business, Engineering or related field
  • 3+ years manufacturing experience
  • Previous experience with implementing behavior-based safety programs
