About the position

The Packer Lead position at Klein Tools is a critical role within the packaging department, operating under the general supervision of the Packaging Supervisor. This position is responsible for preparing products for delivery by assembling the final packaging in accordance with established standard procedures. The Packer Lead will oversee work station set-up, label application, training of new hires, and material handling as necessary. The role requires operating various machines, including a Sealing Machine to seal clamshells on final product packaging and a Sensor Card Machine to attach security sensors to product cards. In addition to machine operation, the Packer Lead will complete the final packaging process by applying proper labels and placing products into boxes. The individual will also be responsible for setting up the Sealing Machine by completing die changes and making necessary adjustments, as well as setting up the Sensor Machine by adjusting sensor locations based on product type and size. Daily responsibilities include reviewing the schedule from the Packaging Supervisor, creating job folders with work instructions, bill of materials, export packing lists, and invoices, and preparing the work station for Packer I staff. The Packer Lead will report accurate counts of time spent and quantities produced for each assignment, utilizing a badge scanning system and completing required paperwork. Additional duties include using a Staple Gun to assemble boxes, training new hires, reviewing efficiency rates, and communicating any issues within the packing department. The role may also involve troubleshooting minor equipment issues and collaborating with maintenance for more extensive repairs. In the absence of the Packaging Supervisor, the Packer Lead may perform supervisory duties. The position may require operating a Pallet Jack and Forklift to move products as necessary, conducting daily safety inspections of material handling equipment, and adhering to safety guidelines while following Six Sigma lean manufacturing standards to maintain a clean and safe work area. Overall, the Packer Lead plays a vital role in ensuring quality, efficiency, and safety within the packaging process, contributing to the overall success of Klein Tools' operations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare products for delivery by assembling final packaging in accordance with written standard procedures.
  • Operate Sealing Machine to seal clamshells on final product packaging.
  • Operate Sensor Card Machine to attach security sensors to product cards.
  • Complete final packaging by applying proper labels and placing products into boxes.
  • Set up Sealing Machine by completing die changes and making adjustments.
  • Set up Sensor Machine by adjusting sensor location based on product type and size.
  • Review daily schedule from the Packaging Supervisor and create job folders with necessary documentation.
  • Prepare work station for Packer I by lifting bins of product and setting them in the appropriate place.
  • Report accurate count of time spent and quantity produced for each assignment.
  • Use a Staple Gun to assemble boxes.
  • Train new hires and review efficiency rates.
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and work with maintenance for repairs.
  • May perform duties of the Packaging Supervisor in their absence.
  • Operate a Pallet Jack and Forklift as necessary.
  • Perform daily safety inspections of material handling equipment.
  • Observe all safety guidelines and report safety concerns to management.
  • Follow Six Sigma lean manufacturing standards to maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED with three (3) years of relevant work experience required.
  • Experience working in a distribution or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand basic English.
  • Knowledge in updating data and navigating through warehouse management systems and various vendor websites (UPS, Fed Ex, Home Depot, etc.).
  • Experience with IMI Series (AS400) and Boss is preferred.
  • Ability to operate a Class II Order Picker and Class II Stand-Up Forklift, Pallet Jack, Labeling System, RF Sealer, and Staple Gun.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple functions and demonstrate basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
  • Ability to work independently and with others, demonstrating strong attention to detail and meeting established deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to train and influence others.
