About the position

The Packing Work Inspector position at the Department of the Air Force is primarily responsible for providing packing and repacking support for items and equipment intended for storage and shipment. This role involves ensuring safe and damage-free movement of various items, including hazardous materials, while adhering to federal regulations. The position requires the use of specialized equipment and techniques to accomplish these tasks effectively.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of standard and specialized preservation, packing, and repacking work.
• Use protective and cushioning techniques for custom packing of items, including hazardous materials.
• Pack and certify all types of hazardous cargo in accordance with federal regulations.
• Maintain and operate various types of packaging and preservation equipment, such as sealers and shrink wrappers.
• Plan, construct, and repair standardized shipping items.
• Operate electric, LPG, or diesel-powered forklift trucks to lift heavy loads safely.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Ability to work under conditions of heavy physical exertion for extended periods.
• Must be able to obtain a secret Security Clearance.
• Knowledge of preservation, packing, and processing methods and techniques.
• Skill in using packaging and preservation equipment and handling hazardous materials.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with hazardous cargo shipping instructions.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical orders.
• Experience operating forklifts and other warehouse equipment.
