About the position

Mid-America Surgery Institute is seeking a dedicated PACU Nurse PRN to join our team at our ambulatory surgery center. This role is crucial in ensuring safe and effective nursing care for patients postoperatively until they are dismissed from the facility. As a PACU Nurse, you will be part of a committed and caring group of colleagues who value creating positive patient interactions. You will be responsible for preparing the care area, ensuring necessary equipment and supplies are available, and demonstrating proper airway management techniques. Monitoring patients according to policy, performing head-to-toe evaluations, and checking dressings or operative sites are essential duties in this role. You will also provide a safe and comforting environment for patients and their families, ensuring they meet discharge criteria before leaving the facility. In this position, you will work closely with a skilled team of registered nurses and OR techs, utilizing sophisticated monitors and technical equipment. Our center performs over 600 cases a month across various specialties, including urology, orthopedics, plastics, ENT, gastroenterology, OB/GYN, podiatry, and pain management. Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients' care area adequately and ensure necessary equipment and supplies are provided.
  • Demonstrate proper airway management techniques.
  • Monitor patients according to policy (vital signs, temperature, cardiac, etc.).
  • Exhibit proper technique for insertion, maintenance, and removal of IV catheters and saline locks.
  • Perform and document head-to-toe evaluation of patients utilizing an approved scoring system in line with HCA policy and procedure.
  • Check dressings and/or operative site of patients and report abnormalities to the surgeon.
  • Provide a safe and comforting environment for patients and families.
  • Ensure patients meet discharge criteria.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing or RN Diploma or Higher degree in Nursing Required.
  • 1+ years of nursing experience in a clinical setting, preferably in PACU, ICU or Surgery.
  • Active RN license as required by state of employment.
  • BCLS Certification upon employment; online certification not acceptable.
  • ACLS required within 30-days of hire.
  • PALS if required by facility within 30-days of hire.
