About the position

The PACU RN position at St. Peter's Hospital offers an opportunity for registered nurses to utilize and expand their critical care experience in a part-time role. This position focuses on the recovery of patients post-surgery across various specialties, ensuring adherence to best practices in patient care. Responsibilities

• Recovery of surgeries in various specialties including general, colorectal, gynecological, urological, ENT, plastics, thoracic & esophageal, vascular, orthopedic & neuro.
• Knowledge of types of anesthesia including general-endotracheal, regional, spinal/epidural, and Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC).
• Understanding of recovery needs in diverse patient populations: pediatric, adult & geriatric; outpatient, acute and critical care.
• Adherence to patient care best practices based on core curriculum set by ASPAN, including a 1:2 RN-patient ratio and airway management.
• Implementation of best practice initiatives for PACU RNs, including treatment of Malignant Hyperthermia and emotional support during Emergence Delirium.

Requirements

• A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York.
• ASN Required; BSN Preferred.
• Phase I recovery experience preferred; critical care experience highly recommended.
• Certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) mandatory upon completion of orientation.
• Ability to assess, plan, direct, intervene and evaluate patient care.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written; experience in electronic health record documentation preferred.
