About the position

The Nationalities Service Center (NSC) is seeking a dedicated Legal Assistant to join its team, particularly within the Pennsylvania Immigrant Family Unity Project (PAIFUP). This position is crucial in supporting the rights of immigrants and refugees, as NSC serves over 5,000 individuals from more than 110 countries each year. The Legal Assistant will work under the supervision of the PAIFUP Supervising Attorney and Staff Attorneys, providing essential legal, administrative, and social support to both detained and non-detained clients. The role involves preparing applications and documents for submission to the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This includes conducting consultations, coordinating with partner agencies, and ensuring effective customer service by resolving problems, providing case updates, and responding to inquiries. In addition to direct client support, the Legal Assistant will maintain case files and manage the client database, ensuring that all documentation is organized and accessible. Community outreach is also a key component of this role, as the Legal Assistant will engage with various community organizations that are part of the PAIFUP collaborative. This full-time position is funded for one year, with the possibility of renewal, and is ideal for individuals who are passionate about immigrant rights and social justice issues. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Excellent research and writing skills.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage a high-volume, fast-paced legal practice environment.
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or French is preferred.
