About the position

The Painter (Journey Level) position at the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts involves skilled work in preparing and painting various surfaces at the Valencia Water Reclamation Plant and other facilities. The role requires a combination of technical painting skills and the ability to work in different environments, ensuring that all painting tasks meet safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform cleaning and preparation of surfaces for painting by sanding, scraping, wire brushing, steam cleaning, sand blasting, or washing.
• Paint interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, tanks, equipment, pipe, and furniture using brushes, rollers, or spray guns.
• Mix paints to match, blend, harmonize, and contrast with specified colors and consistencies.
• Erect and remove scaffolding as needed for painting tasks.
• Clean up after completing painting work and perform other maintenance duties such as plastering.
• Support industrial painting needs across various facilities including Valencia, Palmdale, and Lancaster.

Requirements

• Possess a valid California Class C driver license for positions performing on-the-job driving.
• Equivalent to four years of progressively responsible directly related painting experience.
• Completion of twelve units of college coursework in painting technology or a related program may substitute for one year of experience.
• Graduation from a two-year trade school in painting technology or a related program may substitute for two years of experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in instructing apprentices in trade techniques.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety regulations in the painting trade.
