About the position

The Painter position at Eastern Kansas Health Care System (EKHCS) Medical Center involves utilizing trade skills to perform various painting tasks, ensuring high-quality finishes on a range of surfaces. The role emphasizes teamwork, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to follow instructions while contributing to a welcoming environment for Veterans. The incumbent will be responsible for preparing surfaces, applying coatings, and maintaining tools and equipment in optimal condition.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and apply coating materials on various surfaces including wood, metal, and concrete.
  • Utilize brushes, rollers, and spray paint units for painting tasks.
  • Erect riggings, staging, and scaffolding as part of the painting operation.
  • Replace glass and glazing, and paint signs and markings as needed.
  • Plan and lay out work, selecting appropriate tools and materials for tasks.
  • Measure and calculate quantities of wall covering needed for projects.
  • Ensure surfaces are properly prepared and select the right tools for the job.
  • Apply adhesives for wall coverings and maintain tools in first-class condition.
  • Follow verbal instructions from the team supervisor and report equipment issues.
  • Participate in snow removal during inclement weather.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of a journeyman painter.
  • Ability to follow oral instructions and work effectively in a team.
  • Knowledge of painting techniques and materials.
  • Experience in preparing surfaces and applying finishes.
  • Ability to detect faulty operations of equipment and report issues.
