About the position

The University of Miami Health System, known as UHealth, is seeking a Palo Alto Cybersecurity Lead Engineer to join its IT Department. This pivotal role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring the information security technology environment of the University to ensure the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of all institutional data and systems. The Lead Engineer will be instrumental in enhancing the University of Miami's network security, thereby safeguarding our digital infrastructure in alignment with our commitment to operational excellence and innovation. This position is critical for maintaining the safety and integrity of our IT infrastructure, ensuring seamless and secure operations across the organization. The incumbent will have a direct impact on the University of Miami's ability to protect its digital assets, maintain regulatory compliance, and ensure the continuous delivery of high-quality services to our clients and stakeholders. In this role, the Lead Engineer will be responsible for planning, designing, testing, implementing, and maintaining the organization's computer and network security infrastructure. This includes designing, building, implementing, and supporting enterprise-class security systems, as well as planning and researching robust security architectures for various IT projects. The Lead Engineer will perform or supervise vulnerability testing, risk analyses, and security assessments, creating solutions that balance business requirements with information and cybersecurity needs. Additionally, the role involves deploying, configuring, and managing technology associated with security infrastructure, reviewing and approving the installation of firewalls, VPNs, routers, IDS scanning technologies, and servers. The Lead Engineer will also develop security solutions and processes to support different compliance environments such as HIPAA, PCI, and FDA Part 11, demonstrating hands-on experience with the NIST cybersecurity framework. Responsibilities include performing and overseeing risk assessments and analyses, conducting system and application vulnerability evaluations, coordinating security penetration testing, and overseeing on-site partner assessments. The incumbent will maintain security by monitoring and ensuring compliance with standards, policies, and procedures, while also upgrading security systems by identifying gaps and implementing enhancements. Furthermore, the Lead Engineer will prepare system security reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends, collaborating with compliance and quality control areas, and adhering to University and unit-level policies and procedures to safeguard University assets.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain security by monitoring compliance with standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Upgrade security systems by identifying security gaps and implementing enhancements.
  • Prepare system security reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
  • Collaborate with compliance and quality control areas.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent professional experience in network security.
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional Security certification.
  • Cloud Security Certification.
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in cybersecurity.
  • Proficient in network protocols, routing and switching concepts, and troubleshooting complex network security issues.
  • Familiarity with various firewall management tools and security monitoring technologies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make quick, informed decisions.
  • Familiarity with Palo Alto Networks Prisma Access VPN solution.
  • Ability to configure Prisma service connections and Prisma HIP checks.
  • Familiarity with SASE targets.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
