About the position

The Palo Verde Engineering Summer Internship is a unique opportunity for ABET accredited engineering students to gain hands-on experience in a real-world setting. This paid 10-week program, running from May to July, is designed to immerse interns in the operations of Arizona Public Service (APS), the state's largest energy provider. Interns will engage in meaningful individual and group projects, supported by dedicated managers and mentors who will guide them throughout their internship. The program has been recognized as a Top 100 Internship Program in 2020 and 2021, highlighting its commitment to providing valuable learning experiences. During the internship, participants will have the chance to work on challenging assignments that apply their business education to practical projects. They will also have opportunities to meet with senior leadership, gaining insights into their experiences and the energy industry as a whole. Interns will receive in-depth education about APS, the energy sector, and the various engineering career paths available within utility organizations. The program emphasizes professional and personal development, offering ongoing feedback and coaching on performance, as well as networking events with peers and management. Interns will present their project results to the Engineering Senior Leadership Team, allowing them to showcase their achievements and receive constructive feedback. The internship also includes housing for qualified students, ensuring that they can fully focus on their learning and contributions during the program.

Responsibilities

  • Performs simple to intermediate analysis and designs, assisting in preparing business/engineering plans, designs, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations, and studies.
  • Assists in research, business documentation, studies, or technical reviews, conducting analyses, investigations, verifications, and summarizing results or findings in written reports or oral presentations.
  • Utilizes internal resources to learn business/engineering operations/functions and applies learning in completion of work assignments.
  • Coordinates efforts with other disciplines and/or departments in achieving project goals and task assignments.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university undergraduate program in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline.
  • Must show ongoing achievement in areas of study and training.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.2 is preferred.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply basic discipline engineering principles, practices, and theories, and use commonly applied engineering approaches and calculations.
  • Problem analysis/resolution techniques.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, practices, methods, and safety standards in the area of applicable engineering discipline.
