About the position

The Para Educator/Instructional Assistant position at Twain Elementary School involves supporting teachers in providing individualized and small group instruction to students with various educational needs. The role includes assisting with classroom preparation, supervising students, and helping them develop daily living and behavioral skills. The position is split between two roles: Para Educator and Instructional Assistant, each with specific responsibilities and working hours.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with individualized and small group instruction for students with physical or behavioral needs.
• Support students' special health care needs and develop daily living and behavioral skills.
• Assist staff with classroom preparation and retrieval, use, and storage of equipment and supplies.
• Supervise and assist students in various settings including classrooms, libraries, and playgrounds.
• Help students complete instructional tasks and maintain an orderly instructional environment in the suspension room.
• Administer alternate assessments to students and compile and analyze behavior data.

Requirements

• Must hold an Associate degree (AA) or higher, or have completed two years of study equivalent to 72 college quarter credit hours.
• Must have passed the Educational Testing Service ParaPro Assessment with a score of 455 or higher, or the Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment with a score of 220 or higher.
• Official documentation of qualifications will be required upon hire.
• Must pass a criminal background check.
