About the position

The Para-Pro Ex Ed One to One position is designed to provide dedicated support to a student with special needs within both general and special education settings. The role involves assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of the student, implementing instructional plans, monitoring academic and behavioral progress, and collaborating with school personnel to ensure the student's needs are met effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a mandated reporter to ensure the safety of the student.
  • Adapts classroom activities and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher or administrator to support IEP goals.
  • Administers tests, homework, and make-up work to support student needs in the classroom.
  • Assists in the personal care of students, including feeding and diapering, and may require physical lifting.
  • Monitors, collects, and records students' behavioral and academic data as directed by the certified teacher.
  • Assists students individually or in groups with lesson assignments to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Supervises and promotes independence among students during various activities such as arrival, dismissal, and lunch.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities to enhance skills related to special populations.
  • Maintains professionalism and confidentiality while collaborating with teachers and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in applicable field of study or 48 college credit hours from an accredited institution or successful completion of Praxis certification.
  • Successful completion of TN Para Pro Assessment.
  • Prior experience working with children is preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work well with internal management, staff, students, and parents/guardians.
  • Ability to respond to changing situations and exhibit flexibility.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently and adapt to changing work priorities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills and standard office equipment.
