About the position

The Paraeducator position at Cape Horn-Skye Elementary School involves assisting a certificated teacher in supervising and instructing individual and small groups of students, particularly those with special needs. The role is focused on providing instructional and clerical support to enhance student learning and ensure a positive educational environment. The position is part-time, working 6.5 hours per day on student attendance days, with a pay range of $23.49 to $26.96 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Administers a variety of assessments to provide information regarding student progress.
  • Assists special education students and other identified students under the general direction of the teacher.
  • Assists students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Attends meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and convey information related to job functions.
  • Confers with teachers to assist in evaluating special education student progress and implementing IEP objectives.
  • Implements instructional programs and lesson plans to improve students' academic success.
  • Instructs special education students and other identified students one-on-one or in small groups.
  • Maintains classroom equipment, work area, and student files/records to ensure availability of items and reliable information.
  • Modifies classroom work/homework to provide support and reinforce academic objectives.
  • Monitors individual and groups of students in various settings to enforce school rules and provide a safe learning environment.
  • Performs record keeping and clerical functions to support the teacher and provide necessary records/materials.
  • Promotes good habits to improve the quality of student outcomes and encourage development.
  • Records observations and incidents relating to specific students for documentation and communication purposes.
  • Responds to inquiries from staff for information.
  • Assists other personnel as required to support their work activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with a minimum GPA of 2.5 (must meet state requirements).
  • Job-related experience is desired.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate.
  • Pre-employment Proficiency Test (if needed).
  • Clearances: WA State Apprentice Program (Voluntary), WSP/FBI Background Clearance.
