About the position

The Paraeducator Bilingual Biliterate - Spanish position at Hayward Unified School District involves assisting certificated teachers in providing instructional support to limited or non-English speaking students. The role includes tutoring, translating materials, and performing clerical duties to enhance the learning environment. The paraeducator will work closely with students, teachers, and parents to facilitate communication and ensure that students receive the necessary support to succeed academically.

Responsibilities

  • Assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of limited or non-English speaking students.
  • Tutor individual or small groups of students, assisting in the presentation of instructional materials and academic instruction.
  • Monitor and oversee student drills, practices, and assignments in various subjects.
  • Provide classroom support by setting up work areas and distributing materials.
  • Prepare, administer, score, and record various tests and assignments as directed.
  • Maintain student records and files as directed.
  • Assist students in completing and reviewing classroom assignments and homework projects.
  • Guide and reinforce student understanding of classroom rules and procedures.
  • Assist and guide students in navigating the school campus.
  • Perform clerical duties such as preparing instructional materials and maintaining records.
  • Observe and control behavior of students according to approved procedures.
  • Provide oral and written translation for students, parents, teachers, and administrators as needed.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid Non-CDL Class C license.
  • Must possess an Associate's degree or equivalent college study (48 semester units) or pass a qualifying examination.
  • One year of experience working with children in an instructional setting using bilingual skills.
  • Ability to speak and write in Spanish.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in communication skills.
  • Familiarity with child guidance principles and practices.
