About the position

The Paraeducator for Kindergarten 2:1 is responsible for providing assistance to the classroom teacher and/or other certified personnel to support the instruction of all students and facilitate educational access for students. This role requires sound judgment and adherence to the rules and regulations of the Worcester Public Schools. The position involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at enhancing the educational experience of students in a kindergarten setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the classroom teacher by reviewing, correcting, and reinforcing lessons with individual and small groups of students in all content areas.
  • Assist in preparation and inventory of instructional materials and the setup, operation, and maintenance of various classroom learning aids and equipment.
  • Support student physical and personal care needs, including lavatory routines, toileting, diapering, and lifting.
  • Supervise breakfast and/or lunch periods, assemblies, and clean up work areas.
  • Assist the classroom teacher with clerical work, including recording daily attendance and cataloging instructional materials.
  • Participate in weekly, monthly, and long-range planning with the classroom teacher for instructional activities.
  • Maintain open communication with the classroom teacher during the workday, under their supervision.
  • Maintain student confidentiality.
  • Supervise and support children in both structured and unstructured activities throughout the day.
  • Contribute to a warm and open atmosphere for student growth and development.
  • Serve as a guiding source of information for substitute teachers in the absence of the classroom teacher.
  • Implement district and school-wide rules, policies, and individual student behavior plans.
  • Adhere to testing protocols for students and participate in related professional development.
  • Perform duties associated with specialty areas, including those requiring specialized training.
  • Perform duty work (lunch, recess, line, bus) as required by the Building Principal.
  • Participate in non-violent crisis intervention training within the first three years of employment.

Requirements

  • An Associate of Arts degree, or
  • 48 undergraduate college credits, or
  • Meeting or exceeding the State-determined score on the Para-professional Assessment or the Work Keys Assessment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Non-violent crisis intervention trained
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students with special needs
  • Ability to speak Albanian, Arabic, Nepali, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, or an African Language.
