About the position

This position is for a Classified/Paraeducator - Instructional role at Spanaway Lake High, a high-needs school. The paraeducator will provide 1:1 support to students with Emotionally Behaviorally Disabled (EBD) needs. The position requires 6.5 hours of work per day for 168 days a year, with additional hours for training and certification. The pay is set at $24.15 per hour according to the PSE Salary Schedule Level 5. The role involves assisting certificated staff with instructional and non-instructional activities, supervising student behavior, and helping students achieve their educational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs students individually or in small groups in a variety of learning activities to promote understanding of materials presented.
  • Communicates with certificated staff concerning individual student progress and adjusts methods to meet diverse student needs.
  • Assists in maintaining confidential records and may correct or grade tests and assignments.
  • Helps students develop social skills and manage emotions.
  • Interacts with students during lunch and recess to model social skills.
  • Assists in developing weekly behavioral goals and monitors student progress.
  • Establishes effective communication with students, staff, and parents.
  • Monitors students for first aid needs and refers for treatment as necessary.
  • Assists in transitioning students to mainstream programs.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Successfully passed the ETS Para Pro test or Pearson Paraprofessional assessment, or have an AA degree or higher.
  • Earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a registered apprenticeship program or the Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with school-age children and students with behavioral disorders.
  • Completion of the Washington State Special Education core competencies for paraeducators.
