About the position

The Paraeducator position at CREC Resource Group in Avon, CT, involves assisting certified professional staff in helping students meet their instructional goals and objectives. The role is crucial in enhancing the educational experience of students, particularly those with special needs or aggressive behaviors. Paraeducators will work under the direct supervision of certified staff, contributing to classroom management, instructional support, and student supervision in various settings.

Responsibilities

• Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, and computer instruction.
• Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
• Assist professional staff in the administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests, and assessments.
• Help prepare classrooms and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials according to individual student needs.
• Maintain record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
• Control behavioral and emotional outbursts by employing behavior management techniques.
• Supervise students in non-instructional areas such as lunch programs, bus duty, and playground duty.
• Accompany students on field trips for supervision purposes.
• Assist students with special needs in achieving IEP objectives and maximizing inclusion.
• Contribute to the IEP process and serve as a resource for the evaluation team as needed.
• Assist students with physical or mental disabilities in activities of daily living.

Requirements

• High school diploma plus two years of college credit.
• Associate of Arts degree.
• Passing score on the ParaPro Assessment.
• Experience working with students with aggressive behavior utilizing behavior management techniques.

Nice-to-haves
