This paralegal position will be assigned to the Special Litigation Section and will primarily work with the Consumer Protection Unit. The role involves managing incoming complaints to assess their nature, identifying trends and patterns, and maintaining section statistics for reporting to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The paralegal will provide direct support to investigators and attorneys by conducting research, drafting legal documents, managing evidence, and assisting in interviews. This position requires frequent interactions with the public and business representatives, necessitating outstanding interpersonal skills. The Consumer Protection Unit of the Attorney General's Office is dedicated to investigating unfair or deceptive business practices and filing legal actions on behalf of the State of Alaska to halt such practices. The unit also engages in informal mediation of consumer complaints, educates the public on consumer issues, proposes relevant legislation and regulations, enforces antitrust laws, and registers telemarketers, charitable organizations, paid solicitors, and sellers of business opportunities. Additionally, after completing the probationary period, there is an option for a hybrid telework schedule, with general office hours from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, allowing flexibility in establishing regular hours around core business hours.
