About the position

The Paralegal 2 position at the Washington State Office of the Attorney General's Labor & Industries Division involves providing advanced paralegal assistance in a variety of legal cases. This role supports attorneys by managing legal documentation, conducting research, and preparing cases for hearings or trials. The position is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and make a difference in the lives of Washingtonians, with opportunities for mentorship and collaboration within a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Independently compose and respond to formal discovery requests, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission.
  • Review opposing parties' answers to discovery requests for completeness, evasiveness, and propriety of objections.
  • Research, review, and analyze case facts.
  • Identify legal issues.
  • Interview, develop rapport, and secure cooperation from potential witnesses.
  • Compose comprehensive interview memoranda/reports.
  • Prepare cases for hearing or trial, including exhibits, ER 904 Disclosures, documentary evidence, and demonstrative exhibits.
  • Assist attorney in preparing for and taking part in depositions, hearings, or trials.
  • Design and utilize electronic databases to organize, maintain, summarize, and prepare documents, records, transcripts, audio recordings, photographs, and other tangible records and documents, as well as case analysis.
  • Enter essential case data into the case management system as a division Critical Event Reader.
  • Apply specialized knowledge of various court rules related to legal practice subject matter and court filing procedures.
  • Manage critical events using the AGO legal matters software.

Requirements

  • Combination of four years of experience through paralegal certification, two-year paralegal degree, and/or paraprofessional experience in support of an attorney.
  • OR three years' experience as a Paralegal 1 in Washington State Service.
