About the position

Northwest Florida State College is seeking part-time adjunct instructors for the Paralegal program. As an adjunct instructor, you will be hired on an as-needed basis, term-by-term or per course, to join the part-time instructional pool. This role involves providing instruction in various formats, including online, classroom, and laboratory settings. You will be responsible for fulfilling contractual obligations during the term and conducting each class according to the approved syllabus. This includes utilizing the approved textbook and other instructional materials, being fully prepared and punctual, and adhering to college policies and procedures regarding the Learning Management System (LMS). In this position, you will also be required to submit attendance confirmations and maintain course grades in the LMS, ensuring timely submission of grades. Engaging with students is a key responsibility; you will support them by answering questions promptly and referring them for additional assistance when necessary. Respect and understanding of differences among students and colleagues are essential, as is familiarity with college policies. Additionally, you may assist in the development of curriculum as appropriate and complete annual mandatory compliance training. Other duties may be assigned by the Program Director as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Providing online/classroom/laboratory instruction.
  • Fulfill contractual obligations during the term.
  • Conduct each class according to the approved syllabus.
  • Utilize the approved textbook and/or other instructional materials as approved.
  • Be fully prepared and on time.
  • Utilize the LMS following college policies and procedures.
  • Submit attendance confirmation per college policies and procedures.
  • Maintain course grades in the LMS and submit grades at the applicable times.
  • Support students by engaging them in class, answering questions in a timely manner, and referring them for additional support when necessary.
  • Be familiar with and abide by college policies.
  • Treat students and colleagues with respect and understanding of differences.
  • Assisting in development of curriculum as appropriate.
  • Complete annual mandatory compliance training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree or Master's in law or closely related field or other master's or higher in business with 18 graduate hours in business law, contracts, labor law, business regulations, legal administration, legal research, or closely related field (Qualified for BUL, PLA, and CCJ courses).
  • Post-secondary teaching experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated evidence of professional growth through participation in continuing education and other related activities.
  • Proficiency with teaching technologies, including lecture-capture software, such as Camtasia or Kaltura, and familiarity with web-conferencing software to facilitate synchronous online student support (required if applying to teach online).
  • Experience in student engagement techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience with technology-based instruction preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

  • Competitive pay rate ranging from $2,031 to $2,214 per class based on the level of degree.
  • Pay rate for online courses varies from $25.00 to $150.00 per hour.
