About the position

Bowman and Brooke is a leader in complex civil litigation, specializing in litigating cases in both state and federal courts. With decades of experience, we deliver exceptional results for a diverse range of clients, including top brands in various industries such as motor vehicles, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, consumer products, and heavy equipment. We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and organized paralegal to join our team in Costa Mesa, CA. This role is crucial in providing essential support to ensure our legal processes run smoothly. Our paralegals are integral to our case teams, valued for their contributions and ideas. This position is hybrid, allowing for a balance of work-from-home and in-office workdays.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, edit, and proofread a variety of documents including correspondence, agreements, and pleadings.
  • Work with attorneys to keep litigation advancing in each case, regularly updating team members on case statuses and alerting attorneys to important client and case needs.
  • Assist attorneys with discovery, including drafting discovery requests, preparing for depositions, and issuing subpoenas.
  • Conduct document review and analysis through various platforms.
  • Manage electronic case files using a document management system (iManage) to ensure information is organized and easily accessible.
  • Prepare for trial by compiling trial materials, coordinating witnesses, preparing and issuing trial subpoenas, managing exhibits, and attending trial.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree and a Paralegal Certificate or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of litigation law firm experience, preferably in defense.
  • Meticulous, diligent, personable, and highly motivated.
  • Capable of responding quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities.
  • Able to anticipate challenges and exercise independent judgment to make sound decisions and take effective action.
  • Deliver high-quality work product and take ownership, responsibility, and accountability.
  • Comfortable with learning new technology and processes.
  • Ability to travel nationwide to attend trial.
  • Familiar with and able to follow client billing guidelines, enter and record accurate billing entries.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs. (files and boxes).
